I have played in several different ensembles for improvised music as a saxophonist and computer musician. One of them is RecPlay. RecPlay is a live electronica and mechanica improvisation group initiated in 2001 by Robert Pravda and and the Interfaculty ArtScience / Image And Sound students of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. The group is currently centered around Robert Pravda and Kasper van der Horst and consists of a constantly renewing group of ArtScience students from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. In their many performances, all kinds of objects are converted into electro-acoustic musical instruments, ranging from “Duchamp-like readymades” to personal software instruments. I joined this group for several projects in 2009/2010.

My personal highlight of the RecPlay experience was a performance at Epicentrum on March 24th 2010. I decided to go back to my roots as a saxophone player for this performance. That was a huge challenge as it is really difficult to fit in with a large group of computer musicians when you play the only acoustic instrument – personally, I think it was a good decision and it really worked out great, so please: enjoy.
